HAGEN by Titanic is the second full-length collaboration between Guatemalan cellist and vocalist Mabe Fratti and Mexican guitarist HĂ©ctor Tosta (aka I. la CatĂłlica). The album pushes their sound into bold new territory, combining experimental texturesâmuted guitar scrapes, distorted cello, shifting rhythmsâwith moments of melodic clarity and pop-inflected passages. Throughout its ten tracks, the duo explore contrasts: between dense atmosphere and open space, tension and release, fragility and force. Opener âLĂĄgrima del Solâ sets a dramatic tone, while other tracks such as âGotera,â âPĂĄjaro de fuego,â and âGallina degolladaâ showcase their growing command of both melody and surprise.
HAGEN also marks further artistic growth for Titanic: in production, arrangement, and emotional complexity. Frattiâs voice and cello remain central, but thereâs more room for dynamic shifts, expanded soundscapes, and expressive detailsâsynths, unexpected percussion, moments of pop shimmer. The album feels cohesive, vivid, and ambitious, balancing experimental risk with accessibility. It stands as a strong statement of where Titanic are nowâconfident in their craft, unafraid to challenge listeners, yet deeply committed to beauty and atmosphere.
Reviews
âNo one could accuse Titanic of playing it safe â their songs are filled to the brim with jerky, arrhythmic guitar, cello, and drum lines, each more memorable and unexpected than the last.â â Paste Magazine
âTitanic harness that chaos into an even bigger bang on Hagen, their sophomore album as a duo ⊠itâs as much a beautifully bizarre pop album as it is a series of playfully abstract expressions.â â Treble
âIn âTitanic: Hagen review,â Mabe Fratti and Hector Tosta continue their innovative musical journey ⊠âHagenâ embraces a blend of experimentalism and pop melodies, resulting in a dynamic and unpredictable sonic experience.â â The Guardian
